What are the key steps for two devices/computers to communicate over a network using Packet Switching?
Data is split into data packets.
Each packet includes a header with the IP address of the source,
the IP address of the destination and the position of the packet.
The packets are sent across the network
and redirected from one router to another till they reach their destination.
The receiving device checks if all the packets have arrived.
If a packet is missing or has been corrupted,
the receiving device automatically asks the sending device to resent the lost packet.
Once all packets have arrived,
the receiving computer re-arrange them in the correct order (sequencing).
The receiving computer can now process the data.
